Elokuu – August

So this month school started. I was excited to go back and see all my friends after the summer but not so much for the early mornings. This school year two new exchange students came to Nivala from USA and Hong Kong. It was really nice to finally have some more exchange students here.

After a few weeks of school I went for a weekend to Kuopio, a city a few hours South East of mine. I stayed with my friend from Queensland on Friday night and he showed me a bit around the city and we went to watch a bit of a soccer game. The next day we went back to the city and hung out there with a Finnish girl who went on exchange to Australia and a girl from Taiwan. That night we went to his host families summer cottage with some other Australians and friends of his host siblings. We had an Australian party with Aussie music, lamigtons, anzac biscuits and a barbie for dinner. We went swimming, in the sauna and spa and then danced all night. It was such a great weekend.

On the weekend of the 25-26th August it is the end of the summer cottage season in Finland. There are a lot of celebrations on that weekend. My host family took me and another exchange student in Nivala to a town called Kokkola.  On the way we stopped at this elf farm where a lady hand makes elves. There was a house filled with them, each of different. In Kokkola there was a concert on with many artists and one artist Mikael Gabriel that is really well known. It was so fun and there were sooo many people there.

My Finnish has improved quite a lot now. I can understand more than I can speak but still I have a lot to learn. At least now I know what is going on around me because a few months ago I had no idea and that was so frustrating. Also how have I already been here for sEveN mOntHs whatt. It feels like just just last month I got here.

Ok byee

Love the elf farm. Fancy having an Aussie party in Finland! Did you make the Anzac biscuits and laminations? Sounds such fun. Your whole adventure sounds amazing.
